St. Joes' Angels of Mercy recognize top volunteers PDF Print E-mail

The Angels of Mercy, St. Joseph's/Candler’s community volunteer group, presented its top volunteer of the year awards during its annual recognition banquet in November.

 St. Joseph's/Candler Angels of Mercy recognize top volunteers

The group includes St. Joseph’s/Candler co-workers and their family members who dedicate volunteer hours in support of local community agencies and other not-for-profit social organizations.

Awards are presented to members who demonstrated dedication and commitment to the spirit of community volunteerism and the mission and values of St. Joseph’s/Candler.

The 2007 Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Sheri Estes, a long standing volunteer member of the group. Sheri was cited for her dedicated spirit and enthusiasm, and for her recent work with Picking Up the Piecesa local volunteer group that has coordinated multiple trips to Mississippi to assist Hurricane Katrina victims rebuild their homes and lives. Professionally, Sheri serves as the Director of Mission Services on the Candler campus.

The group’s Guardian Angel Award was presented to David Tortolero, who is not employed by the health system. David was cited for his sustained dedication and commitment to the Angel’s monthly community projects, and for his loyal volunteer work with the group.

The Department of the Year Award was presented to St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical Group Management for collectively completing more volunteer hours with the Angels than any other health system department.

The purpose of the Angels of Mercy is to enhance the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph’s / Candler through promotion of community volunteerism. The group was formed in 1996 as an effort to enhance the community’s summer Olympic support. Since that time, the volunteer group has provided more than 27,000 man-hours to various local non-profit and other community based social agencies.

The group is a past recipient of numerous community service awards including the Volunteer Center of the United Way’s Volunteer Group of the Year.
